2. Okinawa Prefectural Awase Special Support School
For students with cerebral palsy, iPad applications and classes that take advantage of the iPad's performance (substituting typing for notes, using i-bunko books instead of textbooks) have improved weaknesses such as skimming and misspelling, and the percentage of students using kanji in reading and writing has increased dramatically.
3. Yasugi City Akae Elementary School
A student who is not good at communicating with others took the role of teaching a subject he is good at to younger students. The students were able to speak and act with awareness of the other person and to respond to the situation. The experience of "teaching" also changed the children's own "learning style" and broadened their ability to both transmit and receive information. The iPads were also used to create questions for the younger students.
4. Kanagawa Prefectural Sagamihara School for the Disabled
The target child has no speech, and is eager to participate in various activities, but there is one aspect where the direction of his feelings varies. By using an application with picture cards, he is able to communicate various requests, and it is thought that the iPad will become one of the communication tools for him.
5. Shiga Prefectural Yasu School for the Disabled
The target child is a first grader with autism and intellectual disabilities, who is highly anxious and has difficulty exerting himself. Understanding through pictures and photographs is considered to be the main method. It was also understood that he could learn to express himself through pictures and camera apps, and that he would put the right amount of pressure on his fingertips of drawing and writing. This also led them to take a pencil and write by themselves, which sometimes led to positive changes in their friendships.
6. Oita Prefectural Usa Support School
The target students have a combination of intellectual disabilities, hearing impairment, and autism. In order to teach work procedures, we took pictures of the procedures and showed them to the students, and when learning about traffic safety, we used iPads (traffic safety teaching material application) around the school to learn in a condition closer to the actual situation. We were able to provide education that takes advantage of the convenience of the iPad, which can be used "anytime, anywhere.
7. Tokyo Metropolitan Kita Special Needs School
The child has encephalopathy, and most of his favorite games are passive (e.g., cuddling), and he is not good at independent activities. By continuing to use the iPad, we have seen positive changes in the children's heartbeat, use of hands, and even laughter when praised.
8. Nagano Prefectural Inariyama School for the Disabled
Each student in one of the upper secondary classes has his or her own iPad, which is used as a learning tool. One student (Mr. M) was not good at writing with a pen and used to type on a computer keyboard, but as he used the iPad as a substitute, Mr. M came to think that it was easier to use than a computer.
9. Yamaguchi Prefectural Yamaguchi Comprehensive Support School
The subject student has both cerebral palsy and intellectual disability and has no speech. He is able to express his intentions through gaze and upper limb movements but has difficulty communicating, but is able to express his choices through slide switches. With the aim of motivating communication, the iPad application was used for greetings, end-of-day meetings, and also when selecting what she wanted (intention expression). In this way, the iPad became an assistive device that enabled communication and many experiences, from which motivation could be drawn. This was also done after preparing the environment with devices such as iPads and iPad touchers.
